WHAT IS CODEC
CODEC, the Contemporary Design Collaborative is an initiative to build a network of design professionals in the CEE region. CODEC is something between a non-profit organization and a company.

The current state of the design ecosystem and the use of the design tools by business and the public sector in the region is lagging behind the most EU countries. The countries of the CEE region show similarities. The lack of interest to and misunderstanding of design by the government makes it almost impossible to develop and execute a coherent design policy. Nevertheless some grassroots organization took the leading role in developing the ecosystem.

The aim of the CODEC is to connect this initiatives and even more the people behind this organizations in order to combine resources for a more effective operation. We believe that together we are stronger, smarter and faster so we can achieve more.

Our goals are the following
1.
Communication of the role and value of design and practice based support for business and public sector.
2.
Training the designers with the up-to-date design knowledge and knowhow (service design, strategic design, holistic design, etc)
3.
Cross-disciplinary research and knowledge exchange about design and design methodologies
4.
Build effective pathways to impact (influence policy practice and behaviour; and also working through grassroots activities, community actions)
5.
Co-creating new solutions to address contemporary issues (addressing also large-scale complex challenges; e.g. climate change, migration, poverty, ageing)
